We’re excited to launch a new Meet the Team section on the EMP Designs website, giving you the opportunity to get to know the people behind our products, projects and ideas.

EMP Designs brings together people from a wide range of backgrounds, skills and career paths. From electronic product design and embedded software to manufacturing, electrical assembly, purchasing, operations and business support, every member of the team plays an important role in taking an idea from its earliest concept through to a finished, working solution.

Our new Meet the Team section shares those stories through a series of individual interviews, offering an insight into what each person does, how they found their way into their role and what working at EMP Designs is really like.

A Resource for Young People Exploring Career Options

Choosing a career can be difficult, particularly when you don’t know what many jobs actually involve.

Engineering and manufacturing cover an enormous range of roles, but it isn’t always easy for young people to see what those careers look like in the real world. Job titles alone rarely tell the full story, and there are many routes into technical and creative industries beyond the paths people may already be familiar with.

We hope our Meet the Team interviews can become a useful resource for students, apprentices and young people considering their next steps.

By hearing directly from people working in different areas of the business, visitors can discover what a typical day might involve, the skills that are useful in different roles, the routes people have taken into their careers and the things they enjoy most about their work.

Not everyone at EMP Designs followed the same path. Our team includes people with different qualifications, previous careers, practical experience and specialist knowledge. Some roles are highly technical, others are practical and hands-on, while others focus on organisation, purchasing, manufacturing or keeping projects moving smoothly through the business.

We believe that showing this variety is important. A young person who enjoys building things, solving problems, programming, electronics, organising projects or working with their hands may discover a career they had never previously considered.

Get to Know the People Behind the Business

The new section is also designed to give our clients, suppliers and industry partners a better understanding of EMP Designs as a business.

When you work with EMP Designs, you’re not simply buying a product or commissioning a piece of technology. You’re working with a team of people who design, develop, manufacture, assemble and test solutions in-house.

Our projects often involve close collaboration with clients, particularly when developing bespoke electronics, lighting control systems, motion control or unusual technology for film, television, theatre, visitor attractions and industry.

Getting to know the people behind those projects helps explain how we work.

The Meet the Team interviews provide an insight into the different skills within the company, the way departments work together and the experience behind the products and systems we create. They also offer a feel for the personality of the business: practical, curious, collaborative and always ready to tackle an unusual challenge.

Different People, Different Skills, One Team

One of the strengths of EMP Designs is the range of skills we have within a relatively small team.

A project might begin with a conversation about an idea that has never been built before. From there, it can involve electronic design, PCB development, firmware, mechanical design, component sourcing, manufacturing, electrical assembly, testing and final commissioning.

The people featured in our Meet the Team section represent every stage of that process.

Through their interviews, we hope to show not only what each person does individually, but also how those different roles come together to turn ideas into reliable, practical technology.
