EMP Designs Candelair Featured in Misanthrope at the National Theatre

It was a real privilege to attend The Misanthrope at the National Theatre in London last night, and even more rewarding to see our Candelair products being used as part of the production.

The creative team wanted all the atmosphere and warmth of candlelight while retaining the ability to control every candle simultaneously. During the performance, I watched 25 Candelairs extinguish and relight in perfect unison, creating a beautifully timed effect that added significantly to the impact of the scene.

Although EMP Designs works on a wide range of projects across film, television, and theatre, it is surprisingly rare for us to have the opportunity to see our products in use once they leave our workshop. In the 23 years since the company was founded, this was the first time I have been able to see one of our products being used in such a prominent and immersive environment. Seeing the Candelairs appear on stage genuinely gave me a moment of excitement and a great sense of pride.

I was particularly fortunate that, once the performance had finished, the Candelairs remained in position at the front of the stage. This gave me the opportunity to see them up close and appreciate how beautifully they had been incorporated into the set design.

The photograph shows five candelabras, each fitted with five Candelairs, positioned across the front of the stage against a stunning backdrop of chandeliers. It was a fantastic example of how modern technology can support traditional theatrical storytelling while preserving all the atmosphere and elegance of real candlelight.
