EMP Designs has grown considerably over the last couple of years and continues to do so. As a consequence, we have a number of new positions to fill. We are a small, close working team and being a willing part of this and having a good sense of humour are key. Lead Pick and Place Production/Process Engineer
Salary: Full-Time Equivalent £25,000 – £35,000 per annum depending on experience
Job Type: Full time, permanent. 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
EMP Designs is an innovative electronic design company who has been finding solutions to complex problems in the film industry – including lighting, special effects and props, as well as television, theatre, rail and scientific industries for the last 21 years.
We manufacture all of our own products in house and have a pick and place assembly line consisting of a Mycronic MY700JX, Mycronic M300LX, IBL Oven and MEK iSpector that is integral to the manufacturing process. The manufacturing quantities can vary from one off prototypes to batch runs of 1000s and therefore over the course of a day or week a variety of different boards will be produced.
We are looking for an individual who can lead our pick and place line paying close attention to quality. The following skills will be essential:
- Experience with Mycronic
- Be able to set up the equipment ahead of a production run
- Be able to use the pick and place machinery and manipulate it to ensure the best results are being achieved.
- Use ‘MyCentre’
- Ability to rework PCBs
- Fine hand soldering particularly with surface mount soldering techniques
- Be computer literate
We are a small company and therefore we need all members of the team to be flexible and willing to work in other areas of the business as and when required such as the electro-mechanical assembly of products.
You will work closely with both our Senior Design Engineer and Operations Director as part of the day to day role but you will be part of a friendly team who enjoy working together. We aim to ensure everyone who works at EMP Designs enjoys coming to work each day. We enjoy each other’s company outside of work and gather regularly to socialize. We provide a well-stocked kitchen and so provide everyone with food to make their own lunch each day.

Being able to work as a team is fundamental to us delivering high quality products and therefore you need to have a positive outlook and the capacity to work and communicate effectively within a team.
Our clients frequently require us to work to tight time scales and therefore you need to be versatile and adaptable in order to effectively support the manufacturing and design teams. Our business is constantly growing and changing and therefore a desire to explore, learn and support wider elements of the business will be an essential characteristic. The growth of our business also requires us to constantly review and adapt our systems. Providing solutions and ideas on how systems can be improved and adapting to the changes being implemented must be embedded within your personality.
Delivering innovative and quality products is key to our business so, you need a keen eye for quality and consistency, you should operate in a methodical manner.
