Miniature Single-Channel Controller for Modern Film Props
As film and television props continue to shrink in size and become more sophisticated, the technology inside them must evolve to keep pace. At EMP, we design and manufacture a wide range of controllers for props used on professional film sets. One of the biggest ongoing challenges we face is miniaturisation — delivering robust, reliable control systems in increasingly compact formats.
Designed for the Demands of Film Production
Reliable communication is critical in production environments, where props must perform flawlessly under tight schedules and complex technical setups. Our Radio controlled devices need a way to both be connected with the on set transmitters and then addressed to the relevant channels of control. This has been previously done using small switches.
To further enhance robustness while reducing size, we introduced micromagnetic sensors into our design. These sensors allow us to:
Address individual controllers easily
Sync the radio controller seamlessly to the transmitter
Maintain durability and robustness in demanding environments
This approach eliminates unnecessary bulk while preserving dependable performance, essential for on-set use.
Ultra-Compact Single-Channel Controller
Our latest controller has been engineered with one primary goal: minimise size without compromising reliability.
Although simple in function, it represents a significant achievement in compact design. The unit measures approximately 21mm x 14mm x 5mm, making it small enough to conceal inside:
Miniature props
Watches
Handheld devices
Tight, custom-built housings
Key Specifications
Single dimmable LED output
Supports loads up to 1A
Operates at voltages up to 12V
Micromagnetic sensor addressing
While this is a straightforward single-channel controller, its real innovation lies in its size. It has been specifically designed for applications where space is extremely limited but professional performance is non-negotiable.
Built for Hidden Integration
In film production, the best technology is the kind the audience never sees. This controller can be discreetly tucked into even the smallest props while delivering reliable dimming and wireless control.
As props continue to shrink and productions demand more flexibility, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of compact control systems, delivering solutions that are small in size but powerful in performance.
