Candelair – DMX Candle
Using candles on film, TV, or theatre sets can create a specific atmosphere and enhance the visual appeal of a scene, but it also presents several risks that need to be carefully managed. These include the risk of fire, potential burns to the cast, crew, or equipment, and air quality concerns caused by naked flames. Additionally, the unpredictable movement of a flame poses challenges for cinematography, as it can subtly alter lighting, affecting continuity across takes.
To address these issues, we’ve designed a DMX candle called the Candelair that solves all of these problems. Our Candelair uses LEDs with high CRI (Colour Rendering Index) instead of a traditional flame, and these LEDs are fully mappable and radio controlled. This allows for precise control over the light, ensuring that the subtle candlelight effect can be consistently repeated across takes, preserving continuity.
The Candelair is wireless and battery-operated, eliminating the need for cables and making them quick and easy to set up on furniture or within set pieces. Designed to match the size of a standard candle, they fit perfectly into candlestick holders and candelabras, making them ideal for both period dramas and contemporary settings.
The Candelair in the photograph is 240mm tall (including the flame which is 22mm tall) and 22mm in diameter however, we can cater for different shapes and sizes.
